S1 Ep13: AI Powered Robots, Humanoids, AI Learning to Smell - And Much More!

Introduction:

AI for Creatives is a podcast by Creatives for Creatives connecting art, innovation, and humanity.

Segment 1:

Kamilah and Nova talk about what they’ve been up to recently. Kamilah talks about some speaking engagements she has coming up around the topics of circularity, sustainable fashion, and technology. Nova talks about speaking at Digital Fashion Week and a couple of other places about AI, emerging technologies, and the like.

Segment 2:

Nova and Kamilah start to discuss wearables. Nova talks about someone who jailbroke their smartwatch to turn it into a virtual assistant. They talk about where you draw the line with privacy. While it has advantages, they both have concerns about the safety of the data and privacy.

Segment 3:

They talk about the traffic safety system being tested in the UK called Lane AI. It records and photographs the inside of the car to see what a driver is doing and not doing. Violations of any laws are recorded, and fines are then sent by the authorities to the drivers. Safety first – but where is the line with privacy? Kamilah brings up license plate readers being used and abused, as well as traffic cameras being used for revenue in the US, too. Also – who has access to this data?

Segment 4:

Nova brings up the $90,000 humanoid robot available that will be powered by an AI. Kamilah goes into how they are looking more human and employing LLMs (Large Language Models). They talk about how they will be used – at least to start – in mostly industrial settings, warehouses, and the like. Nova gets into new robots that appear to be human (covered in a synthetic “flesh”). The use case is companionship for the elderly. Kamilah gets into the “why” being just because we can – humans love to create and explore.

Segment 5:

Nova digs deeper into how AI is interacting with people via software and can begin to move to hardware. Kamilah explores the façade of social media and its artifice being just a step away from a robot. AI and everything emerging around it is a tool not meant to take over your life.

Segment 6:

Nova gets into NPC players in games that are being powered by AI. Now they’re capable of conversation. Gaming will be taken to another level. There’s also a social media platform where just AI Bots are talking to each other – training each other back and forth. Nova then brings up the AI that is learning how to smell. Kamiliah talks about how that could add other useful tools to a robot in the home. Noval gets into how our senses are a huge part of how we differ from AI.

Conclusion:

Nova and Kamilah explore how, in one lifetime, the technological journey has been so vast and extreme. We’ve gotten used to new tech before, and this is just new tech we’ll get used to going forward. Kamilah asks how all of this can be applied to creatives. Nova explores how AI will make us reexamine our identity, and expand, create, and elevate our creativity with these technologies.

Kamilah and Nova talk about how this new tech will force us to evolve, grow, and choose how to change.
