REVISITED - S1 Ep12: AI Concerns, Ethics, and Solutions
Introduction:
AI for Creatives is a podcast by Creatives for Creatives connecting art, innovation, and humanity.
Segment 1:
Kamilah and Nova talk about what they’ve been up to recently. Kamilah talks about the Museum of Presence project she’s advising on – which is Nashville-based. Nova talks about a movie that she saw that impacted her – the latest Mission Impossible film (which – SPOILER ALERT - deals with AI). Nova also talks about the new female innovator and entrepreneur community she’s building called the House of Nova Collective. The project ties into wellbeing.
Segment 2:
Nova and Kamilah start by discussing some of the concerns with AI. The swift evolution of the technology needs to be understood. Nova talks about several of the new tools available and what they have to offer. They talk about cloning with AI. Kamilah talks about AI tools being put into Zoom calls.
What are the ramifications of using this tech versus abusing the tech? Solutions for potential problems need to happen now.
Segment 3:
Who will be replaced by AI? What jobs will be replaced by AI? How will we prepare for the job shift AI will cause? Kamilah talks about how it’s all about productivity. Nova remarks that getting involved with AI for certain jobs will be in higher demand. It’s about awareness and preparedness. Education and upskilling. Will AI lead to more being over more doing?
Segment 4:
Why else should we care? Do we understand how this is happening? Learning about the technology is necessary. Generative AI are self-learning. They are increasingly assimilating life akin to human intelligence. Nova talks about Mo Gawdat– a past chief business officer of Google who feels the newest generative AI are similar to people in multiple ways.
Nova talks about three rules of survival:
Resource allocation
Self-preservation
Creativity
Segment 5:
Kamilah brings up the importance of who is in control in the face of this. Who’s doing the input, who is creating these tools, how is AI learning and who is it learning from? Nova equates this to teaching or guiding a child. Creators using the tools are helping with the education of the tools and the building of their knowledge and abilities. Kamilah brings up how the data out there might impact AI – and concerns about negative information.
Segment 6:
Protecting our humanity is an important element. For everyone to win we need to use this tech for all of humanity to move forward. Nova talks about simple ethics – treating individuals how you want to be treated – and building that into the technology. Kamilah talks about including compassion and technology in the algorithms and codes. It can’t be skewed towards any one individual’s personal ethics. People need to be proactive.
Conclusion:
Used ideally, the technology allows us to spend more time making connections with one another, and more time to be with who we love, to do what we love, and the like. More time to create, to connect, and to experience joy and all that life has to offer. Sharing and spreading a sense of urgency is important.
